What an amazing turnout we had last weekend. There were 25 volunteers on Saturday to help with planting and building. With so many hands, we got much accomplished! As always, it wouldn’t be a volunteer project without a few learning curves, but at the end of the day it was heartwarming to see so many people come together and get so much accomplished for the project.
This Saturday will be out LAST playground build day and the LAST day to help plant trees. The contractors are working to complete the excavation this week and the holes for the trees will be drilled in advance now that we know the ground is much heavier than we anticipated. This should make the tree portion of the project go much quicker this week. We have 17 trees left to plant and Jim Bowman says we need approximately 6 workers for a full day to complete the playground on Saturday. We have reached our time limits with the season coming to a close and this is the final push to make it all happen!
If you would like to help out, please take a moment and put your name in the google doc under which project you want to help with. This also helps us to plan for lunch for everyone.
This weekend is also our Craft Show at Benner Hall from 10-4, so we will be particularly short on hands at the playground since so many of our regular workers and tree planters will be helping at the craft show as well- it would be great to see some new faces out!
Thanks everyone!
This weekend is another BIG WEEKEND in volunteering. We are going to continue working on the playground as well as work on planting 33 trees that are arriving on Friday.
We will need MANY bodies on hand this weekend to be able to accomplish all of the tasks at hand.
The trees will be planted in the newly laid topsoil, so digging shouldn’t be an overly strenuous job. With enough hands on board, we hope to be able to get all of them planted in one weekend. Families are welcome, with safety being a big priority of course. While it is not recommended to have small children at the site at this time, older well behaved children who would like to help their parents are welcome.
Saturdays have been beginning at approximately 8am and going until late afternoon, while Sundays begin closer to 10:30. Tools are always needed, with shovels and clippers a priority for this planting weekend and drills a need at the playground.
We are also in need of a few hands to take the drive with our crew to the Philadelphia Naval Yard on Friday morning to pick up the trees. If you are interested in taking the drive to help, please let us know ASAP by calling the Boro Office at 215-538-9290.
We encourage anyone to just “show up,” but RSVPing on our google doc helps us to plan ahead for lunch. You can RSVP here:

Thanks so much and spread the word to anyone you think would be interested in helping!
